Lefkada is one of the Ionian Islands, on the North West coast of Greece. To the North is Corfu, Paxos and AntiPaxos. To the South are Kefalonia and Zakinthos.
Although Lefkada is called an island, it is only 50 metres from the mainland and is attached to the mainland by a causeway and mobile bridge. The bridge is opened for 10 minutes on the hour, every hour, every day, to permit boats to pass through the channel from the open Ionian Sea to the enclosed sea between Lefkada, Meganissi and the mainland. This makes the island very easy to access.

Main Routes to Lefkada
From Athens - By bus or Hire Car
By Hire Car – One of the fastest ways is to hire a car in Athens and drive to Lefkada. The drive is approximately 4.5 hours along a mixture of freeways and coastal roads.
By Public Bus - The buses to Lefkada Island depart from Kiffisus Bus Station in Athens.
From Athens Airport to Kiffisus Bus Station. Take Airport Express Bus number 93 or a Taxi. Journey time about 1 hour.
At Kiffisus Bus Station, there is a Ticket Counter just for Lefkada. It opens about one hour before the bus leaves. There are approximately 4 buses per day. The journey time is approx. 4.5 hours.
Buses arrive at Lefkas Town Bus Station. From there a hire car is required to drive to Desimi Bay.
From Preveza Airport otherwise known as Aktion Airport - By bus, taxi or hire car.
Aktion Airport, is located 3 Km south of Preveza, western Greece. It is the closest airport to the Island of Lefkada, about 20km.
International charter flights to Preveza arrive most days of the week from many parts of Europe, from early May to late October. There is a Bus service running between Preveza and Lefkada and also a taxi service.
However, a hire car is your best option.
When you leave the airport, turn right (south) and follow the signs to Lefkada. It is about 30 minutes to from Preveza Airport to Lefkas Town. And another 30 mn to Desimi Bay.
From Igoumenitsa - By bus, taxi or hire car. This takes approximately 2.5 hours.
From Italy - There is no direct ferry to Lefkada There are ferries from Venice, Ancona, Bari and Brindisi to Igoumenitsa, and then travel down the coast by car.
Finding Desimi Bay
Dolce Villa Desimi is located in Desimi Bay which is the next village after Vlycho on the South East end of the Island.
Once you reach the village of Vlycho, at the village half point there is a small Marina where Sail Ionian is located. Park at this Marina and ring our Property Caretaker who will personally escort you to Dolce Villa Desimi.
The Property Caretaker details will be provided upon confirmation of your booking.
At the Villa the Property Caretaker will provide you with the automatic gate control, the keys to the house and generally give you information about the house and surrounds.
Even though the island of Lefkada is easily accessible you will need to have a car to get to Desimi Bay. It's also a worthwhile option as it gives you the chance to explore this beautiful island at your convenience.
